The Wellness Concepts Team's Favorite Third Spaces

In this month's newsletter, we talked about the value of third spaces - a place that's not your home or your workplace where you often see familiar faces and feel a sense of community.

Third spaces help build social networks and weak ties that can help prevent isolation. The more opportunities we have to casually bump into one another, the easier it is to feel part of a community. So, we asked the Wellness Concepts Team, "What is your favorite third space?" Here are their answers!

"Everyone knows my third space and that is my favorite hot yoga studio that I go to twice a day now! I'm obsessed!"

"Right now in my life, I'm bringing my son to a lot of different places like parks and rec. centers. I see a lot of other parents there and it's nice to have that time to connect with them. I always run into someone I know!"

"I have to say the library. I love to read, but more than that, they have so many cool things at the library now. You can check out tools, instruments, video games, board games, puzzles... It's such a cool thing that more people need to take advantage of!"

"You always run into people you know at the farmers' market and it's fun to talk to all the vendors!"

"Mine is the farmers market. Today is the first farmers market of the season in my neighborhood and I've been waiting all year for it. I'm so excited!"

"My favorite third space is a local coffee klatch spot for a long leisurely weekend connection with my favorite friends."

"The hot yoga studio is my favorite third space right now, too!"

"I don't see a ton of people at the park, but it's nice to see people out enjoying nature early in the morning. I also see some cute dogs!"

"I meet a lot of interesting people when I'm out walking, especially with the dogs. If you have a dog with you, everyone talks to you!"

"My favorite third space is the sauna at my gym. You never know who is going to be in there and we have what we call 'sauna chats.' We feel like we can solve the world in there! It's always a nice surprise conversation."

"Right now, since it's really nice out, I have to say the dog park. My mom and I take our little man, Hector. He loves to run around, it's so cute!"

"My ultimate third space is the Neon Newt! It's truly like Cheers when I walk in. Even if I'm not working, there are inevitably other customers there who I know from being there all the time. Everyone is so nice and remembers all these details about everyone's life. It's the best place!"
